Dean Gill’s lifted the Birmingham Saturday Vase following a comfortable 2-0 victory against Coton Green in the final at Birmingham County FA headquarters.

Boss Gill said his team played ‘fantastic’ in a game which was watched by around 300 Wednesfield supporters who travelled to cheer on the players.

Wednesfield have already won the West Midlands Regional League Division One Cup this season, alongside finishing runners-up in the league.

They now travel to Wolves’ home next Tuesday to play Midlands Premier champions Alvechurch in the final of the JW Hunt Cup.

Forward Luke Yates opened the scoring in the weekend final, finding the bottom left corner from close range after 20 minutes, following a good passing move.

James Quarry made it 2-0 after 70 minutes after he was played through on goal by substitute Keiran Cook .

Dean said: “It was a fantastic performance (against Coton Green). There was two sides to the game. There was the footballing side, and off the pitch where Wednesfield took around 200 to 300 fans.

“In the first half, Coton did not pose a threat. We should have probably been 6-0 up by half-time. The first goal was a good footballing goal, with an interchange of possession and a pass for Yates to run on to and score.

“Young substitute Keiran Cook came on in the second half, he ran down the left wing and pulled the ball back for Quarry to run onto.”

Gill is now looking ahead to their final fixture of the 2016/17 campaign. It will be the first time Wednesfield have played at Wolves’ home ground for a decade.

Gill is braced for a tough test against an Alvechurch side who are three leagues above them.

“Alvehchurch are a good club and they have a massive budget,” he said. “They are bigger, stronger, faster and more experienced than us. But we are confident going into the match. We are confident we will put in a good performance.

“Our goalkeeper is on loan from Alvechurch, they have helped us out this season.

“We haven’t been to Molineux in 10 years. Before this season not one member of the squad had ever won any silverware.”

Gill believes up to 500 fans could travel to Molineux to support his side.

He is encouraging people to come out and back them on the day. Tickets for the match can be bought through Wednesfield’s Twitter or Facebook page, or at the stadium on the day.

Wednesfield are currently awaiting the outcome of an appeal after they were denied promotion to the West Midlands League Premier Division.
