First in the bag for the Great Wyrley-based retired steelworker, of Bridgtown Social AC and Goodyear AC, was the 24-peg Wolverhampton Over-60s Club Open.

The contest was held on the Chubbs’ waters of the Staffs & Worcester Canal at Ball Lane in Coven where he topped the charts with 3-14-6 of caster-tempted roach and perch at peg 19.

The next two came off adjacent pegs with Bob Boothby (Bridgtown Social AC) claiming second on peg 20 with a comparable quarry for 3-5-0.

That left 84-year old Wednesfield canal legend Bert Simmill (Bilston Angling Centre) in third with an all gudgeon 3-1-6 from peg 21.

Grosvenor then went on to land the Goodyear AC PM match held on the Golf Course Section of the Staffs & Worcester Canal in Coven.

Grosvenor mustered all of his guile, pole-fishing caster on end peg 12 to achieve a comfortable win with 7-9-0 of roach to 9oz plus skimmers.

The next two framers opted for the same bait tactics with Wolverhampton’s Neil Turner taking second with 5-13-0 from neighbouring peg 11, ahead of Penkridge-rod Dave Smith who returned 4-14-10 at peg three. Unfortunately lost a big perch at the net towards the end of the match which could have made all the difference.
