Dean Gill’s charges have already lifted the West Midlands Division One Cup, beating Old Wulfrunians 3-1 in the final, and are also in the final of the JW Hunt Cup, against Alvechurch at Molineux on May 23.

They beat Midland Premier outfit Highgate United 4-2 on Tuesday night to make it to the final of JW Hunt Cup, with the squad in confident mood going into the clash with Coton Green at Birmingham FA headquarters in Ray Hall Lane, Great Barr.

Boss Gill was delighted with the resilience shown by his side.

“Highgate scored in stoppage time on Tuesday night to take it to extra-time, but we got the win,” said Gill.

“And we were good value for it, even Highgate would tell you that – it was a great performance from us.”

That win came after Wednesfield were informed that they may not go up despite ending the West Midlands Division One season as runners-up to Hereford Lads Club after the league committee voted against promoting them.

The club are set to appeal the decision, and Gill has commended his lads for staying strong ahead of a chance to grab another piece of silverware.

He added: “Tuesday – after finding out about the committee vote – the mental strength of that is unbelievable.

“The lads are not paid or anything like that, they do it because they have a real passion and want this club to succeed, so we are all ready for this cup final.”
