The Amos Lane outfit enjoyed a spectacular league term, finishing on 69 points, and clinched the Division One Cup.

Dean Gill’s side have also made it to the JW Hunt Cup final, which will take place at Molineux against Alvechurch on May 23, and are in the final of the Birmingham Saturday Vase against Coton Green this weekend.

In a club statement, Wednesfield said: “Over the last two years, Wednesfield FC have overcome many obstacles and this setback will be tackled like every other challenge, with honesty and integrity and with good old fashioned Wednesfield spirit.”

League chief executive Neil Juggins did not disclose why the decision was made but said: “We believe Wednesfield will make an appeal. That would be heard by the FA at Wembley if Wednesfield take up that option.”
