Duo gunning for national titles this weekend
James Mongan could claim a National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Championship title in his maiden year of competing in the tournament.
He's one fight away from honours heading into Sunday's national finals for Class A and B at the Action Indoor Arena in Bristol,
Mongan, from Priory Park Boxing Club in Dudley, features at 48kg in Class A, the most junior of the sections for fighters born in 2001.
The former Schools national champion has three rounds to defeat Dennis McCann, from Repton in London, having beaten a favourite last weekend.
Mongan scored an impressive semi-final victory unanimously on points over Luca Bloomfield, from the famed Birtley gym in Gateshead.
Priory Park club-mate Jee Johal couldn't join him in the final, though, having lost to Birtley's Dan Toward unanimously in his semi, which was held at the Croxteth Leisure Centre in Gateshead.
Walsall Wood's Hamzah Ahmed is looking to make it second time lucky when he takes his place at 57kg in Class B, for boxers born 2000.
Ahmed booked his spot with a unanimous win over Ethan Brown, of Gemini in Liverpool at Croxteth and is in the final for a second year running.
Paige Goodyear, from Brooklands in Dudley, cannot win a national title in the female Class B at 63kg as there's no other entrant to box at the weight.
