Lower Drayton Farm in Penkridge hosted two days of racing featuring some of the best local, national and international riders in the sport. Cannock's Sam Bailey, who rides for the host club, was among the highest fliers on Saturday.

A series of group meeting races including intermediate juniors, juniors, seniors and experts took place on the dirt track with Bailey coming second overall in the expert race.

On Sunday it was the turn of the internationals as the Staffordshire venue hosted the UK round of the sidecar international, ladies' international and inter-group team races as well as support race events throughout the day.

Jack Etheridge, from Kent, and Scott Grahame, from Sutton Coldfield, won the sidecar event with a 1/1/4 scorecard and are now up to fifth in the European Championship standings. In the ladies' international, Germany's three-time world champion Steffie Laier produced a dominant display as she won all three of her races to win the competition.

The intergroup team race saw Rugeley's Jack Bas, from Kinver Club, come second as the Midlands team finished fourth overall.

General manager of the Amateur Motorcycle Association Suzanne Potts said: "It was an excellent event over the two days. Big credit goes to Cannock Motorcycle Club.

"They really pulled out all the stops to make sure riders and spectators had a really good day."

Phil Bailey, of Cannock Motorcycle Club, thanked Ray Bower for the use of the land, JW Racing for supplying parts and assistance to riders and Cannock Motorcycle Club members for their hard work in the weeks leading up to the event and over the weekend itself.
