Richard Mansell bags European Tour spot
Staffordshire’s Richard Mansell has achieved a lifetime goal after qualifying for the top level of golf on the European Tour.
The 25-year-old earned his tour place after finishing fourth overall on the European Challenge Tour’s order of merit following his tied 21st place in the Grand Final in Majorca yesterday.
Mansell, who is based at Beau Desert Golf Club, near Cannock, had led the tournament at one point but slipped back on Saturday and Sunday.
However, his finish was good enough to put him in the top five over the course of the Challenge Tour season meaning he has earned a coveted European Tour card for next year.
That will allow the former Chase Terrace Technology College pupil to line up alongside the cream of European golf.
It had been a nervous end to the campaign after Mansell had been forced to sit out the penultimate tourament having tested positive for coronavirus meaning his his hopes of earning a European Tour card rested on the Grand Final.
