Gary O’Neil came out publicly and said it wasn’t about him at the weekend and it definitely wasn’t – that was the message he was giving – but he would have been so happy to get that result, with everything that happened there and how unfairly he was dismissed.

Now, he’s gone on to bigger and better things, and he’ll be delighted.

It was definitely a banana skin of a game. Those two home games against Manchester City and Villa, with brilliant atmospheres, were big fixtures. So to then go down to Bournemouth after an international break, it’s a tricky game.

The first half was a little bit lacklustre and Bournemouth definitely started better, but there wasn’t a lot in the game. After conceding a disappointing goal, Wolves huffed and puffed and didn’t really look like scoring.

I was surprised to see Wolves start with a 4-4-2 but O’Neil is always on it tactically. On this occasion he realised it didn’t work and when they switched to the back three, it definitely looked better and more creative.

The timing of the first goal was important and it knocked the stuffing out of Bournemouth.
