The success or otherwise of a club’s business in a transfer window can only be properly judged over years, not days.
But these next few weeks, as the season finds some rhythm, should provide early clues as to just how good a summer this has been for Albion, Villa and Wolves. While observers can afford to take a long-term view, there is no such luxury for those employed as managers and players.
A fixture list which features the visits of Liverpool and Manchester City before September is out appears unenviable for Gary O’Neil, yet with the window closed we should quickly start to get an idea of the identity Wolves will have under their new head coach.
Neither does it feel a stretch to suggest the period between now and January will likely be pivotal to the Molineux career of Fabio Silva. Wolves’ failure to recruit a striker during the summer means the £35million man is guaranteed opportunities.
