Manchester City verbally agree deal for Wolves' Matheus Nunes
Wolves have reached a verbal agreement to sell Matheus Nunes to Manchester City for an initial fee of just over £47million.
City midfielder Tommy Doyle will move to Molineux in a separate transfer on loan with a £5m option to buy, though the precise details of both deals still need to be finalised.
Nunes’ future has been the subject of serious speculation since Wolves last week rejected a £47m bid from the Premier League champions.
The Portugal international subsequently refused to train in a bid to force through a move, with Wolves initially refusing to budge on their £60m valuation.
But a verbal agreement has been reached after talks between the clubs resumed on Wednesday morning.
Though the initial fee for Nunes is little more than City’s first offer, the final deal is expected to include around £5m in add-ons and will represent a club record, eclipsing the £47m sale of Ruben Neves to Al Hilal earlier this year.
The £5m option agreed for Doyle, who Wolves value at £15m – is also seen as excellent business, despite the fact City will retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause.
Doyle, an England under-21 international, impressed while on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship last season.
Nunes joined Wolves from Sporting Lisbon last summer in a deal worth £42m but endured an inconsistent first season at Molineux.
