Wolves v Blackpool preview: Gary O’Neil ‘desperate’ to lead Wolves on long cup run

Gary O’Neil has promised changes to Wolves’ starting line-up for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Blackpool but insists he remains “desperate” to win the tie.

Fresh from getting the first win of his reign at Everton on Saturday, the new head coach faces a balancing act as he tries to provide players who have seen limited playing time so far so action, while also ensuring the team remains strong and cohesive enough to avoid slipping up against the League One Tangerines.

Boubacar Traore, Matt Doherty, Joe Hodge and Toti Gomes are among those likely to get their first starts of the campaign, though when asked about his primary aim heading into the second round tie, O’Neil could not have been clearer.

“Just to win and get through to the next round,” he replied. “I want a cup run, of course. There are a lot of players who need to play as well.
