Wolves fans taking on gruelling challenge to raise money for club foundation
A determined couple have taken to their garage to complete an exhausting challenge for the Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation.
Mick Green, aged 61, who is a wheelchair user since suffering a rare blood condition and nerve damage, and his wife, Tracey, age 50, who underwent a heart operating to have a mechanical valve fitted in 2009, are both directors of MG Air Systems Limited, based in Ettingshall.
Now the couple who have five children have set time aside to complete a major fundraising challenge.
Mick aims to complete 100 miles, using an Invictus Active Trainer, and Tracey has taken to using a Bike Turbo Trainer to take on a 500-mile challenge but despite the distance they will actually not be moving out of their garage.
Mick said: "We have sensor devices linked to our phone and know how far and how fast we are travelling.
"We began the challenge on March 1 and aim to complete it at the end of the month.
"So far we have raised £705 but hope to get more than £1,000 through a justgiving page, Facebook and different social media sites."
Mick is no stranger to marathons having completed one for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in 2003 and in 1990 he raised £1,000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
He is a lifelong Wolves fan and both are season ticket holders.
Mick said: "I was inspired by the good the Wolves Foundation is doing and Nuno Espirito Santo, manager and head coach, contributed towards the fund which helps get food to the needy.
"The challenge has been tough and we are training most days but worked out that we could take six days rest during the month.
"We do about one hour and one-and-a-half hours each day and I am happy to do it but it can be draining."
Mick said that he suffered from shoulder fatigue and his legs ached while Tracey said she faced the problem of saddle soreness and kept her spirits up listening to music.
She added: "Most of us do not realise how lucky we are to work and to be able to feed our children but there are a lot of people who cannot and we felt we just had to do something to help."
