The 59-year-old – who led Wolves to the League One title in 2013/14 – will not be present at training or matches as of Thursday.

He is, though, expected to be on the touchline for Pompey’s game at Bristol Rovers tomorrow night.

“I need an operation on my arm, on my forearm,” said Jackett.

“They’re expecting I’ll be out for around two weeks, two weeks of recovery, after the operation. It is a precautionary one.”

Joe Gallen, who served as Jackett’s assistant at Molineux, will take charge in the interim.

Portsmouth first-team coach Jake Wigley will also help lead the team, with Jackett remaining ‘in constant contact with them both, while also able to speak to the players via video link before and after games, as well as at half-time’.

“There’ll obviously be the telephone and the video link available to me, and I’ll be using that,” added Jackett, who was at Wolves between 2013 and 2016.

“I’m really not anticipating being out for any length of time or having any problems.”
