Wolves skipper Conor Coady set for 'special' milestone at Southampton
Conor Coady is embracing a ‘special’ occasion as he approaches his 100th Premier League appearance.
The Wolves captain has made 98 of his 99 caps so far in old gold and black – making one top flight appearance for Liverpool – and will make his centenary milestone if he returns to the starting XI for tomorrow’s game at Southampton.
The 27-year-old says marking his 100th Premier League game will be a dream come true as he reiterates the ‘honour’ it is to lead Wolves.
“It will be (special),” Coady said:
“Any game at this football club is absolutely amazing to be honest. I think if you play in the Premier League for this football club, and I have said it plenty of times before, it’s a real, real honour so it will be incredible if it comes. It’s scary to think of but you dream about it as a kid.
“You dream of playing in the Premier League and it’s easy to say. I know players say the same thing and it’s a bit corny but you do. The Premier League is what you watch and I think the whole world watches this league, it’s the best division in the world for me and it’s something that you dream of as a kid growing up.
“So to play 100 games in the Premier League is absolutely incredible and it’s a real, real achievement.”
Meanwhile, Coady has hailed ‘top professional’ Jonny Castro Otto after the Spanish wing-back signed a new contract with the club until 2025 – on the back of his recovery from an ACL injury.
“We are over the moon, he has worked so, so hard to get where he is now,” Coady added. “His injury was a massive blow for us when it happened last season and we wanted to get him back as quick as possible so I think it’s a testament to him. He is not just a top professional, he is a massive friend to all of us and the contract represents what he has done over the last few months, getting himself back fit and it’s absolutely incredible. He is a massive part of this football club.”
