Nuno delighted with 'organised and compact' Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo has expressed his pride after seeing an 'organised and compact' Wolves return and stop the rot in defence at Chelsea.

In drawing 0-0 at Stamford Bridge, Nuno's side kept their first Premier League clean sheet since the end of October – ending a 12-game run without one.

It was a valiant, committed performance and the Portuguese believes they can take a lot of confidence from keeping the Blues at bay.

"We've been bad for a while, so it's always important," said Nuno.

"You know me – everything starts from being organised and compact.

"The boys did well and didn't allow too many situations, so I'm proud of them, of course.

"That's what it's all about, as we've had matches where, unfortunately, in the final minutes we have clearly lost focus and attention – and been punished.

"The message was clear, to be switched on all the game until the referee's final whistle.

"I truly believe that with organisation, after the talent of our players up in the pitch, it can bring us good things."

A lot of attention was on Chelsea after the sacking of Frank Lampard and appointment of Thomas Tuchel, and they dominated possession for most of the evening.

But they were denied by an extremely-alert Wolves backline, making several important blocks and clearances.

The visitors had the best chance, too, as Pedro Neto raced through on the counter-attack but saw his lob clip the crossbar and go over.

"We needed to do a good game. It's all about us, no matter what is happening with Chelsea," said Nuno.

"We are too focused and too determined on solving our own problems.

"We can't be distracted by that. We had a game-plan and the boys did well as a unit, compact, very organised. They didn't allow too many things.

"We have to look at the positives and improve other details of the game.

"It's a refocus. We had to refocus how we do things, how we committed – and the boys did well.

"They defended very, very well. That is the starting point for everything."

Nuno will be concerned over the condition of Rayan Ait-Nouri, who had to go off with an injury at half-time.

He was, though, able to give a debut to new signing Willian Jose – being granted a work permit just in time – as a substitute.

Nuno added: "Willian immediately came and helped the team. This is what we want, for players to come in and help the team and give us more solutions.

"We decided to go with him (off the bench) because the game required a striker leading the line that could hold the ball, because we were under pressure.

"Patrick Cutrone and Fabio Silva have other characteristics, but having solutions is always better."
