Steve Bull: Great to see Wolves striker Fabio Silva get off the mark

It was brilliant to see Fabio Silva get his first goals in gold and black this week – a huge boost for the lad.

As a striker, there is nothing like hitting the back of the net, so getting a couple at Doncaster in the Papa John’s Trophy will have definitely upped his confidence.

Nuno will be delighted as well, to have him as a more positive option along with Raul Jimenez.

He is only a teenager, of course, and he would have been itching to get some minutes, so fair play to him for making the most of the opportunity with Wolves Under-21s.

It is not the usual route for a club-record signing, but he has gone out and made a bit of a statement.

Hopefully, things can keep moving onwards and upwards for him.

Some may turn their noses up at the fact it was a League One side in the Trophy, but Silva was playing against seasoned professionals.

They are not the best players he will come up against, but it gives you an indication of what English football is all about.

There will have been defenders knocking him about – elbows and all – so it will have been useful.

With me, people would be like ‘you’re only scoring in the third or fourth division’, but it doesn’t matter where you are as a striker, as long as you’re scoring goals.

It is a base to build off and, fingers crossed, take to that higher level.

If you are scoring goals, it is a job well done, and Silva has ultimately got himself off the mark now. The 18-year-old seems to have the right temperament, too.

Another player may have thought he was above featuring for the youth side, but he is happy to learn. Well done to him.

Finally, all the best to Conor Coady who has had to pull out of the England camp. He’ll be frustrated, but he has earned that Three Lions place and should be just fine in the long run.
