Former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy takes charge of APOEL Nicosia
Former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has returned to club management by taking charge of Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia.
The 61-year-old – who was at the Molineux helm from 2006 until 2012, winning the Championship title in 2008/09 – has taken long-time assistant Terry Connor with him to Cyprus, too.
Having left his role as Ireland chief back in April, McCarthy has signed a contract with APOEL until May 2022.
His last club job was with Ipswich, where he was sacked in 2018.
A statement from APOEL on McCarthy and Connor said: "Mr McCarthy is a coach with vast experience in the English Premier League with over 600 appearances in the Premier League and Championship.
"He has won two Championships with Sunderland and Wolves, while four more times he led his teams to the play-offs of the Championship.
"Internationally as coach, he led the Irish national team to qualify for the 2002 World Cup with the team advancing from the group and being eliminated in the next phase by Spain in the penalty shootout.
"We welcome both of them to APOEL and we wish them to immediately help the team return to good and substantial performances so that it can meet its goals, which are to win titles."
Meanwhile, Wolves Under-23s got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Fulham on Monday afternoon.
Oskar Buur opened the scoring at Aggborough with a sweet left-footed finish.
Pascal Estrada headed in from close range after the break and Meritan Shabani wrapped it up at the death, with James Collins' side – bouncing back from a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace last week – also having Andreas Sondergaard to thank for a series of fine saves.
