The 20-year-old impressed at Cardiff during the second half of last season, so much so that the Bluebirds want him back.

But they are not the only admirers of the defender, with three other second-tier clubs understood to be in the mix.

Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield are also in the hunt for Sanderson.

The Wolves academy product, who can play either as a centre-back, full-back or wing-back, played 10 times for Cardiff in 2019/20 and helped them reach the play-offs.

He has played once for Wolves, in the Carabao Cup loss at Villa last term.

Sanderson, the nephew of former Olympic gold medallist Tessa Sanderson, also went on the pre-season tour of China last summer, featuring in the Asia Trophy final victory over Manchester City.

He signed a new contract with the club last year and it expires next summer.

Sanderson said recently on his loan spell at Cardiff: “I had no idea Cardiff were interested until there was two hours left of the transfer window. I remember getting back to Wolves and they told me it was Cardiff, and I remember thinking: ‘I’ve never been to Wales before’.

“It is crazy to look back. I never could have seen it coming, but I am very thankful for it. I don’t think there are much better experiences to be part of than a promotion race in your first season away from your club on loan.”
