Dan McNamara’s side have snapped up former Albion and Nottingham Forest skipper Kelly Darby, brought back Tammi George from Tottenham and also announced the capture of Coventry United’s Kate Evans.

It comes after their 2019/20 campaign was deemed null and void when nine points clear at the top of the National League Division One Midlands table because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

And defender Darby is confident Wolves will dust themselves down and lift the title this time around.

“It was a dreadful shame that Wolves didn’t get what they deserved last season, but I’m confident we can do it this time around and then push hard at the top end of the division above,” she said.

“The set-up and facilities for the women’s team at Wolves are tremendous.

“The standards are extremely high, and if we can maintain those standards on the pitch I’ve no doubt that we can get promoted this season.”

The ladies began their pre-season schedule last weekend, picking up a 2-1 win against Newcastle.

George – back at Wolves after struggling to cope with the travel demands at Spurs – scored against the Magpies, too.

“Travelling up and down the motorways was so draining,” said George.

“It was too much, unfortunately, but football-wise it was an opportunity I thought I’d never get and so I don’t regret it.

“I feel that it’s improved me as a player, and I’ll be aiming to show that back at Wolves.”

Boss McNamara is excited for the what the future holds and added on his new trio: “Kelly is one of the very best central defenders in the Midlands and a real leader.

“After giving Tammi the chance to establish herself in the first team, she was phenomenal for 18 months before she went to Tottenham. I’m absolutely delighted to welcome her back.

“Kate’s a dynamic midfielder who I saw play for Coventry United a couple of times last season.

“She’s been fantastic in training and I’m sure she’s going to be a very important player for us.”
