Conor Coady: Defeat won't ruin Wolves' season

Proud Wolves captain Conor Coady says they are not letting their final-day defeat dampen what has been another ‘fantastic’ season.

The 2-0 loss at Chelsea on Sunday saw Nuno Espirito Santo’s side end up seventh in the Premier League.

It means they are hoping the Blues beat Arsenal in this weekend’s FA Cup final to grab a Europa League place again, but Coady is feeling positive after back-to-back top-seven finishes for the first time since 1961.

“If you look back on the whole season in general, it has been fantastic for Wolves,” he said.

“What we’ve done, where we’ve come, how we’ve improved in games, has been brilliant. We’ve improved our points tally.

“We are disappointed with Sunday, of course, because we started off quite well.

“But if you look at the whole season, it’s fantastic. We’ve not finished badly – seventh in the Premier League for two seasons in a row is a fantastic achievement.”

Wolves’ Premier League campaign is over, but 2019/20 is still going as they have the clash with Olympiacos coming up at Molineux, in the Europa, a week on Thursday.

“Now, we’ve got a massive game coming up in the Europa League,” said Coady.

“There’s always confidence in the camp. We’ll make sure we’re ready.”

Wolves star Ruben Neves also reflected on the league campaign, adding: “It’s hard when you are a team that normally fights for the middle of the table, and people see you up there fighting with the big sharks, you don’t have as much respect as the other teams.

“We need to get used to it, but they need to get used to seeing Wolves fighting for what we have this year. People need to get used to seeing Wolves there.”
