West Ham 0 Wolves 2 – Player ratings

Joe Edwards rates the players as Wolves restart the Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win at West Ham.

Published

Rui Patricio

A nice clean sheet for the Portuguese, who confidently claimed a fair few crosses.

With no fans in the ground, you could hear him regularly talking to those in front of him. Commanded his area very well throughout. 7

Willy Boly

West Ham had a brief period in the second half when they threatened Wolves with some decent crosses, but Boly was there to head them clear.

The Frenchman was not tested hugely but dealt with everything that came his way soundly. 7

Conor Coady

Again, with the lack of supporters, you could hear Coady crystal clear.

Whether it was marshalling the backline or questioning the referee, none of it could be missed. He loved being back out there. 7

Romain Saiss

West Ham appealed for a second-half penalty when he tackled Bowen, but the Moroccan got his foot on the ball and the referee was not interested.

Slightly shaky in the first half but calm in the second. 7

Matt Doherty

Ever so keen to get forward and do his bit in the final third, it was no surprise to see the Irishman come up with an assist.

A great cross to Neto, who came up with a top finish, and Doherty did well on the back foot, too. 7

Ruben Neves

Wolves' subs – Traore and Neto – were the game-changers, but Neves was the sharpest of the starters.

He could constantly be seen winning the ball back and then passing it coolly. 8

Leander Dendoncker

It was a bold call to go with Dendoncker from the off but, to be fair, the game-plan worked to perfection.

The subs made the difference but the Belgian still played his part in the superb win for Wolves. 7

Joao Moutinho

Wolves dominated possession early on with the help of Moutinho, who, like Neves, was very busy off the ball and productive on it.

Not quite as noticeable as his compatriot, but it was still great to see him back in action. 7

Jonny Castro Otto

You always know what you are getting from the Spaniard – steady all-round.

Having shaken off a knock during the big break in the campaign, he linked up nicely with Jota early on and proved hard to beat as well. 7

Raul Jimenez

The cross that came in from Traore was a striker's dream, leaving the grateful Jimenez the easy task of heading in.

Fairly quiet otherwise but on 23 goals for the season. That is what it's about. 7

Diogo Jota

The Portuguese was very lively in the first half, although guilty of holding onto the ball for too long a couple of times.

When Traore came on for him, that is when Wolves really kicked things up a gear. Still, though, Jota did well. 7

Substitutes

Adama Traore (for Jota, 64)

Grabbed a delightful assist and struck fear into West Ham as soon as he came on.

An absolute nightmare for a tiring team to deal with – unstoppable. 8

Pedro Neto (for Dendoncker, 64)

Rounded things off with an absolute corker, showing exactly why supporters are so excited about the Portuguese winger.

It was a finish of a player brimming with confidence. What a way to mark your first game back after three months off. 8

Ruben Vinagre (for Otto, 89)

Morgan Gibbs-White (for Jimenez, 90)
