The supporters selected are from The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust which runs New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.

West Ham, who were Wolves’ first Premier League opponents since the pandemic on Saturday, invited 25 supporters to have their names listed in their match day publication instead of the playing squad for Saturday’s game.

The 25 lucky fans were Amie Cooper, James Hudson, Donna Clift, Katie Lenton, Gurveena Johal, Hilary Hale, Diane Pullinger, Helen McHale, John Horden, Sian Passmore, Emma Merrick, Laura-Jane Hill, Jessica Chopra, Dr Stuart Hutchinson, Kate Cheshire, Helen Dixon, Jaspal Ghale, Helen Doggett, Daini Flower, Sue Merrick, Sally Hill, Philip Weaver, Jack Reynolds and Colin Johnson.

Completing the list is John Doyle, who died on March 30, 2020, aged 60 after suffering respiratory problems before contracting Covid-19.

John, who was the Trust’s first male telephone operator, was nominated by his widow Kate and daughter Amy Pearce, who both work for the organisation.

Kate Cheshire, 49, a matron in neonatal and inpatient obstetric at new cross hospital, said: “I am thrilled to be recognised in the West Ham programme along with other Wolverhampton heroes.

"Looking forward to seeing my team again albeit virtually and hope we get the right result.”

A Wolves spokesperson said: “We were delighted that West Ham extended this thoughtful gesture to a few of the many key workers of Wolverhampton who have done so much to help the people of the city.

"We wanted to show our support too and are featuring the names of all of those who entered the competition for the programme for our forthcoming game against AFC Bournemouth.”

Copies of the programme, priced £3.50, can be ordered on the West Ham website.
