Started by Italian outlet Tuttosport in 2003, the gong is given to who they feel is the best player in Europe under the age of 21.

Previous winners include Wayne Rooney (2004), Lionel Messi (2005), Isco (2012), Raheem Sterling (2014) and Kylian Mbappe (2017).

And this year, Neto and Gibbs-White are part of a 100-man shortlist for the prize.

Portuguese winger Neto gets in thanks to a very impressive first season with Wolves, scoring four goals across all competitions.

Attacking midfielder Gibbs-White is included, too, despite missing a good chunk of this campaign because of a back problem.

Of the 100 nominees, 21 are from the Premier League.

Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones are among the notable top-flight names.

The favourite for the award this year, though, is Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

A public vote will now whittle down the shortlist to 20, with a panel of 40 journalists from a range of countries and publications picking the winner.
