Both governing bodies held an emergency meeting this morning after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for the disease.

All football matches have now been suspended until April 4 'at the earliest' – while the Champions League and Europa League have also suspended their competitions, a day after Wolves drew 1-1 away at Olympiacos in a being closed doors game.

Wolves fan Chris Bishop, from Dudley 'understands' the decision but feels that it could have been targeted at gatherings in a more enclosed space.

"I'm so gutted about it," the 42-year-old said.

"I was looking forward to the trip down to West Ham but hopefully we can say our final goodbye to Aston Villa in a few weeks.

"In all fairness, it's a serious issue and I can understand why they're suspended all the games.

"But I think it should apply more to indoor events, rather than a football match where it's all open and outside.

"It should be a person's choice whether they go to the game, as it is with other things.

"I'm choosing not to go to the gym at the moment because it can be easily to catch things there."

Dave Scrivens

Dave Scrivens, 72, from Wolverhampton, added: "I'm upset about it, but I can understand it.

"We'll all miss the team and the games when they're gone, especially with the way we're playing.

"It's one of the best Wolves teams I've ever seen and we were enjoying the games so much.

"The momentum of the games will be lost now, it's so deflating."

Lilian Scrivens

Lilian Scrivens, Dave's partner, has been left 'disappointed' at the suspension of football matches and is now concerned about the virus' affect on her holiday plans.

"There's a lot of panic about it and the government need to keep us updated," the 72-year-old said.

"We're meant to be going on a cruise on Tuesday and we don't know whether it's on or not.

"We're 72 but have no underlying health conditions, but we're still worried.

"The football is disappointing and we never wanted to lose it."

Cosmin Stiubei

Meanwhile, Cosmin Stiubei – originally from Romania and now living in Wolverhampton – believes the move is a 'good thing' as it will help to stop the spread of the virus.

"It's serious and something everyone is concerned about – I'm not really surprised that the football has been suspended," the 23-year-old said.

"I think it's a good thing, people are so close together at football and it's so easy to spread the virus.

"Personally I'm not so worried about it, they say it's affecting older people and those with health conditions more.

"People are probably more worried than they should be, but the decision with the football is the right one."
