The 59-year-old, who had a 17-game reign at Molineux in the early days of Fosun’s ownership, has signed a deal with the 11th-placed Serie A side until June 2021.

Since being sacked by Wolves after less than three months at the helm, on October 25, 2016, the former goalkeeper has also managed Crotone and Venezia in his homeland.

Zenga now joins the Sardinian side after Rolando Maran was relieved of his duties, on the back of an 11-game winless steak.

He has also managed New England Revolution, Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade, Gaziantepspor and Al-Shaab in a 20-year journeyman career as a manager.

Meanwhile, another former Wolves man, Silas has left his role as gaffer of Sporting Lisbon.

The former midfielder, who made nine appearances for Wolves between 2003 and 2006, has moved on after a 3-1 loss to Famalicao in the league, which followed the Europa League exit at the hands of Istanbul Basaksehir.

"I want to apologize to Sportinguistas because the history of the club requires much more than that," said Silas after the Famalicao defeat.

"We must all assume responsibilities and I assume my own. I want to say that this was my last game for Sporting.

"I want to thank you because you gave me the opportunity to learn things that I would probably never learn.

"It was a decision thought after the Turkish game and made on Friday.

"It was a great pride to represent Sporting and I think that in one situation or another we could all have done more. This decision was made with Sporting in mind.”
