Wolves Fans' Verdict v Espanyol: We're through!

The thoughts of the fans as Wolves lose at Espanyol but advance in the Europa League – to the last 16.

Reaction to the Result

This game was never going to have the hallmarks of an absolute classic but Wolves will be disappointed to have lost in Barcelona.

However, we have to look at the bigger picture and Wolves are through into the next round.

After results elsewhere last night, Wolves will certainly fancy themselves in the next round.

At least after last night we know we can’t play Adama Traore and Daniel Podence up top together and I don’t think Neves has to worry about his place in the team come Sunday.

Man of the Match

I thought both wing backs played well until Ruben Vinagre was pulled in preparation for Spurs on Sunday.

Matt Doherty was a threat most of the game too and got himself his 14th goal since the start of last season. An incredible feat.

Something to Improve

On another night against a superior team, the complacency that Wolves showed could have cost them. They’ll need to improve in the next round.

Reaction to the Result

We won the tie so it was job done.

Well done for that, our European adventure continues, which is brilliant for all concerned.

Tonight's game was a little underwhelming to be honest. We started as if we were in auto-pilot, expecting our usual clean sheet and grinding out the win. It needed us to go behind, carelessly, for us to start playing with any purpose.

For the remainder of the half we were just about on top despite far too many aimless forward balls.

We were sluggish again after the break, went behind, drew level, then let it slip again. Disappointing for the very vocal travellers in the upper tier.

Man of the Match

Matt Doherty, Conor Coady and MOTM Joao Moutinho were the three who kept there standards high.

Adama Traore, who had been 'targeted' in both games, seemed intimidated by his early booking. Daniel Podence put in his first promising display.

Something to Improve

Pedro Neto in front of an open goal for sure.

I thought we were somewhat unprofessional on our approach, not helped by perhaps too many changes.

Reaction to the Result

I can’t help but feel a little disappointed, especially with the last five minutes of the game, but the reality is the tie was won last week at Molineux and we’ve just spent a lovely three days in beautiful Barcelona.

The game was full of errors with Wolves hardly finding any rhythm. We all thought Pedor Neto had stole a win right at the end, only for Espanyol to steal victory in added time.

It’s fair to say, the players were not quite “at it” last night. The fans were, with wolves supporters loud and proud in all four sides of the sparse stadium.

It really is a good stadium, but Espanyol’s boast of “we will sell all of the tickets” fell well short of the reality. A shame with so many supporters here unable to get match tickets.

Man of the Match

A few players were not really at it - Willy Boly, Max Kilman, Ruben Vinagre & Adama Traore can all do better.

Morgan Gibbs-White was awful; another chance missed to impress and I fear they may be running out now.

Conor Coady, Joao Moutinho & Leander Dendoncker all did ok.

Man of Match for me was Matt Doherty, followed closely by an impressive Daniel Podence, on his full debut.

Something to Improve

It is often the case, when Nuno shuffles the pack we are not the same cohesive unit.

There were five changes here with Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves, Romain Saiss & Jonny Castro Otto all rested and expected to feature at the weekend.

Anyway, one more day to enjoy the sightseeing and then home for Tottenham. There is a lot riding on this game now, so we need to be back “at it”, for sure.
