The current Ireland chief, who guided Wolves to Championship glory in 2009, was reunited with the gold and black faithful at popular sports pub, The Cleveland Arms.

He was joined on stage by long-time right-hand man Terry Connor, who managed Wolves on an interim basis after McCarthy’s sacking. Former keeper Matt Murray, who played under the pair, was the host.

On sharing stories from his time at Wolves, Connor – still working with McCarthy for Ireland – said: “It’s great to come back. I remember all my time at Wolves very fondly. It was a really good stint and I enjoyed it all.”
