Although acknowledging the January window is always tricky, Nuno is ‘very confident’ the club will find someone who is versatile this month.

It is understood Cutrone’s return to Italy to sign for Fiorentina – which has now been confirmed by the Serie A side – came after Nuno decided he was not in his long-term plans.

On the hunt for a replacement, Nuno would not specify names but said: “It’s about bringing in the right player who can give something that we don’t have.

“That’s the philosophy we have. We have a small squad, we work and operate in this way. Versatile players are basic for us.”

And Nuno added on the search: “He has to be good.”

Raul Jimenez is the only fit senior striker currently, so Wolves are out to get a deal done.

“It becomes more difficult because of the time that we are in,” said Nuno.

“All the rumours, all the names, there are so many and most are not true.

“It’s not only Wolves in the market. January is not the right moment to do, but we have to decide well. And we’re going to do it.

“Of course, I’m very confident because we are working on that.”

Cutrone has left on an 18-month loan which will become permanent in the summer of 2021. Rumours of a buy-back clause are not true.
