Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone not expected to feature this month

The want-away forward trained at Compton on Wednesday after talks to secure a move back to Italy hit a block.

But despite returning to the fold, he is not expected to be in contention for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

The Express & Star understands the club do not want to risk the striker picking up an injury, with the forward only expected to feature competitively again this season when the window shuts or if he finds a new club.

The latter option is the expected conclusion of this transfer saga, with the striker keen to leave Molineux.

The summer signing from AC Milan is still expected to return to return to his homeland, with the Fiorentina deal not believed to be dead in the water.

Cutrone returned to Italy to celebrate his 22nd birthday with family and was given an extra day off on Tuesday to continue talks. The player and clubs had entered transfer discussions over a loan move, with a view to permanent switch.

But they have so far been unable to reach an agreement, with reports in Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claiming Fiorentina and Cutrone’s patience are being put to the test by Wolves.

At Molineux, Wolves do not need to sell and are in no rush to offload Cutrone.

They forked out £16m for the forward in the summer and are in a strong negotiating position, having tied him to a four-year deal.

Meanwhile, centre-half Willy Boly is back on the grass and kicking a ball as he ups his return from a broken fibula.

The defender has been out of action since slipping in training in October, but is returning to full fitness. Wolves released footage of Boly training on his own at Compton on Wednesday.

He is yet to join full training with the first-team squad and is anticipated to return to action in February.
