Wolves skipper Conor Coady keen to enjoy the rest

Wolves skipper Conor Coady is out to make the most of the rarity of having no midweek game.

This week is the first in which Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges have not had to play a match on a weekday – international breaks aside – since the start of the Premier League season.

The rough schedule has not been to the detriment of Wolves, who are in the Europa League knockout stages and eighth in the league, but they are thankful to have had some time to rest before getting back on the training pitch at Compton.

Nuno’s side were returning to training today after a couple of days off to recharge, and Coady, when asked what the goal is this week ahead of facing Norwich on Saturday, said: “Improvement. It’s the same every week, just try to get better.

“We have just got to look at the disappointments and the negatives (from the 2-1 loss to Tottenham on Sunday) and make sure that we improve because that’s the most important thing.

“We’ll enjoy the week – we really will.

“We’ll be on the training field and listening to the boss as much as possible, to try to make the wrong things right.”

Wolves have already played 31 games this campaign.

They have played 17 in the league, 12 in the Europa League – when you include the six qualifying ties – and two in the League Cup.

Nuno & Co also went to China in the summer, playing two matches as they won the Premier League Asia Trophy.

The schedule is not set to get any kinder for Wolves either.

Once this free midweek is out of the way and they have travelled to Carrow Road to take on Norwich, they are hosting reigning top flight Champions Manchester City a week on Friday.

That is a 7.45pm kick-off, and then they are making the trip to league leaders Liverpool a week on Sunday (4.30pm), so there is less than 48 hours between those games.

Watford are the opponents and New Year’s Day, before Wolves face Manchester United in the FA Cup third round.

The Europa campaign resumes in late February with a two-legged tie against Espanyol, too.

Coady is aware of the busy schedule, but is confident they will thrive with the backing of the Wolves fans.

“They’re the best. I say it every single week about them,” he added.

“They drive us forward and push us on as much as possible.

“As long as we have got them pushing us, it really will help us.”
