Parking fears over Wolves' Europa League clash on general election night
Voters have been warned they could face parking chaos due to the general election falling on the same night as a Wolves game.
Nuno's men are due to play Beşiktaş in their final Europa League group game at the same time that the country heads to the polls on December 12.
Council bosses are concerned that voters attempting to use any of the polling stations around Molineux may struggle to find parking spaces due to match day restrictions being in place.
The issue has been raised by St Peter's ward councillor Roger Lawrence, who said it would be "outrageous" if people ended up getting parking tickets while they were going to vote.
The former council leader said more than seven polling stations could be affected. He has called for restrictions to either be lifted on election day, or at the very least on streets with polling stations.
Council officers say they have been working with police and parking officials in a bid to minimise the difficulties for people who want to vote.
The authority has sent out letters advising residents of off-street parking, and put on extra parking attendants near polling stations to advise the public.
Plans are also in place to cone off dedicated areas for voter parking near to each affected station.
Mr Lawrence said: "It is a real problem, and it is absolutely vital that we do all we can to make it as easy as possible for people to exercise their democratic right.
"We have made progress, but it is key that where possible, people get out and vote early. It would be outrageous if anyone gets ticketed while they are voting.
"Anyone who does get a ticket should approach the council and hopefully the issue can be resolved."
The polling stations closest to Molineux include Newhampton Arts Centre and the Tenants’ Meeting Room on Coven Street, where coned-off parking areas will be set up for voters.
At the Gloucester Street Community Centre, voters will be able to use off-street parking facilities.
Other polling stations that may be impacted are the Tenants’ Meeting Room in Firsbrook Close, Christian Pentecostal Church Hall on Gorsebrook Road, and the Tenants’ Meeting Room in Boscobel Crescent.
Council bosses are also seeking a solution to the additional problem of transporting ballot boxes to the count venue in Aldersley at a time when thousands of fans will be leaving Molineux.
