The 28-year-old Frenchman suffered a fractured fibula on Saturday morning as a result of slipping at Compton.

And now he is set to undergo tests to determine whether surgery is required.

"He is going to have an MRI tomorrow to see, really, what he has," said boss Nuno Espirito Santo after Wolves' 1-1 draw at Newcastle.

"Then, on Tuesday, he is going to see a specialist to see what there is to do.

"The worst thing is that it happened. It was a moment of sadness – seeing him in pain and suffering that was terrible for us.

"He’s a big, big guy, an important player and a fantastic man.

"We will miss him, of course. We will miss him."

If Boly does need an operation, Wolves will seek to get it done as soon as possible.

Without him, and Ryan Bennett who has been struggling with a groin problem, Matt Doherty moved to the centre of defence for the first half at St James' Park.

Leander Dendoncker then dropped back in from midfield, with Doherty moving to his usual right-wing-back position, as Wolves improved greatly in the second half.

Jonny Castro Otto cancelled out Jamaal Lascelles' header for the Magpies to make it eight games unbeaten in all competitions.

On Doherty and Dendoncker, Nuno added: "Every player being versatile is something we want.

"It’s just trying to get the right one. It was Matt in the first half, Leander in the second. Being versatile is good and shows the growth of the team."
