Man City 0 Wolves 2 - Player ratings
We rate the players as Wolves notched a historic 2-0 win over the Premier League champions, Manchester City.
Rui Patricio
Saved brilliantly from Sergio Aguero only a minute after Traore had put Wolves in front. Also saved smartly from Raheem Sterling during the opening half but was otherwise rarely seriously troubled on a day when Wolves’ superb defence came to the fore. 8
Willy Boly
The French centre-back backed up his match-winning performance at Besiktas with an arguably even better display less than 72 hours later. Always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to clear. Dominant in the air. A tremendous performance. 9
Conor Coady
Is it really only three weeks since Wolves’ skipper suffered that nightmare afternoon against Chelsea? This was an afternoon where Coady was truly back to his best, marshalling a Wolves defence which kept its discipline throughout. Made several key clearances. 8
Romain Saiss
The only blot on the day for Wolves was an early injury to Saiss, who pulled up after making a clearance in front of Aguero. His replacement, Ryan Bennett, performed admirably in a backline which did not give City an inch. 5
Adama Traore
A breakthrough performance from the wideman, who combined discipline in defence with a clinical edge in attack, after being moved to partner Raul Jimenez in the closing stages. Took both of his goals superbly. A player who is now answering his critics in emphatic fashion. 9
Leander Dendoncker
The Belgian does the work which often goes unnoticed and while there was nothing particularly flashy in this performance, it is the kind which is vital if a team is to pull off wins like this one. Got his foot in when needed and stayed disciplined. 7
Ruben Neves
A tireless performance from the midfielder, who started the move for Wolves’ opening goal when he won the ball with City on the attack. Put his foot in and along with Dendoncker protected the back three. Was careful in possession. 7
Joao Moutinho
The playmaker showed the gritty side of his game as he contributed to a famous win. Put his foot in when required and used the ball well, as usual, when in possession. Stayed disciplined as Wolves frustrated the home side, who could find no way through. 7
Ruben Vinagre
There may have been a few eyebrows raised when the 20-year-old was included in the starting line-up for the first time since a difficult afternoon against Everton. But this was an impressive performance, as he kept Riyadh Mahrez firmly in check. 7
Raul Jimenez
The Mexican might have had two goals to his name inside the opening 25 minutes. Rebounded from the disappointment of missing those chances to set up both of Traore’s goals, the first after gliding past Otamendi. Never stopped working. 8
Patrick Cutrone
The Italian was presented with a glorious chance to open the scoring inside the opening five minutes but shot horribly wide when through on goal. There can be no faulting his work-rate - and he put in a tireless shift - but at the moment he just cannot find the finish. 6
