Adama Traore targeting better goal tally for Wolves
Wolves entertainer Adama Traore is determined to increase his goals and assists tally – despite now having more defensive responsibilities.
Playing as a right-wing back under Nuno Espirito Santo, the Spaniard has flourished and already picked up four assists this term – one more than he managed for the whole of last season.
But he is yet to score this campaign, so he wants to change that soon, and do better than his solitary strike in 2018/19.
“Definitely. If I can help the team, giving assists, like I’m doing, or score, like I want to do, it’s better for the team,” said Traore.
“I want to defend and everything is important, but I played all my life as a winger, so those things I like to do as well.
“This new position, I have to work in a defensive shape as well, but I’m working on every aspect. I feel I am improving almost every day.”
Traore shone over the two legs against Italian side Torino as Wolves made it to the Europa League group stage.
He also changed the game as a substitute against Manchester United and played a big part in Romain Saiss’s goal against Everton last weekend.
It has been a notable improvement on last season, in which the exceptionally quick ex-Barcelona man struggled for form and game time.
“Last year, I didn’t have a lot of games, but I’ve been preparing myself and the gaffer has been working with me on this new position,” said Traore.
“I’m showing my quality, but every time, I can give more. Every day, I will be better.”
The lack of a full pre-season under Nuno last summer – after being signed for a then club-record £18million from Middlesbrough – may well have played a part in Traore’s difficult first campaign in gold and black.
But he has had plenty of time on the training pitch in recent months and added: “Being with the team from the beginning helps.
“Last year though, I was learning much, and I’m still learning much. I’m still young, so I like to improve myself.”
