The dark green shirt, shorts and socks are comparable to the traditional colours of the Mexico national team – the country of Wolves’ £32million record signing and star striker Raul Jimenez.

Harry Whittingham went out into the streets of Wolverhampton to gauge the reactions of supporters to the new kit, also featuring a red trim and designed by Adidas.

“I like the new kit very much – it’s a very good choice of colour,” said Wahdat Haidary, 40, of Wolverhampton. “Hopefully we can a win a competition in this kit!”

And Mr Leach, 66, of Wolverhampton, is also a fan.

“I love it – it’s a lovely looking kit,” he said. “It’s really clever marketing and follows the Raul phenomenon.

“We’re moving from sombreros to the kit!”

Rob Steele, 34, of Bushbury, was another fan of the kit – though not his favourite.

“I still prefer the black away one, but I still like it,” he said. “It’d be rude not to buy it, it’s a nice colour.

“I can’t wait to see us wear it in Europe and the league.”

Images of the third kit were leaked on social media, before it was officially revealed to on Wednesday.

Unsurprisingly, Mexican maestro Jimenez was at the centre of the kit reveal following a hugely successful first year at Molineux.

He has scored 25 goals in 54 appearances for Wolves, including eight in 10 so far this season, attracting eyes from his homeland – including friend and WWE wrestler Sin Cara, who attended Wolves’ Premier League match against Fulham at the end of last season.

The kit has also attracted admiring comments on social media.

Phil Bradley (@wolvesbradders) wrote on Twitter: “That is a thing of beauty!”

Meanwhile, Phil Vaughan (@PhilVaughan10) posted: “Absolutely love it.” And @oliviawwfc added: “Take my money now.”

Some improvements were suggested though.

“It’s ok... should of had white shorts imo,” wrote Thomas Mason (@popodomtom).
