Wolves' Niall Ennis and Cameron John head out on loan to Doncaster
Wolves youngsters Niall Ennis and Cameron John have gone on loan to former Albion boss Darren Moore's Doncaster Rovers for the season.
Ennis has also signed a new long-term deal at Wolves, keeping him at Molineux until the summer of 2022.
Doncaster were in the market for a striker after selling John Marquis to Portsmouth, and Ennis has been brought in by Moore to help fill the void.
The 20-year-old impressed for Wolves' PL2 Division Two-winning under-23s team last season while making his senior bow against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.
Ennis was a part of the triumphant Premier League Asia Trophy squad in China earlier this summer.
The Wolverhampton-born forward has also had a loan spell at Shrewsbury and overcome two serious knee injuries in his young career.
Centre-half John, 19, is yet to make his first-team debut, but has similarly shone in Wolves' youth ranks.
He has played in friendlies for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, trained with the squad over the past couple of years and was named on the bench at Everton in the Premier League in February.
This is his first loan spell away from Wolves.
Wolves' academy boss Scott Sellars said: "Both boys had really good seasons last year and progressed well in the under-23s, so this move will be good for everyone involved.
"Niall’s new contract is well deserved, and for us it’s important that we look after our boys, look after the talent we have and try to protect it, while giving the players the opportunity to grow and develop.
"There is a life span for all the boys in terms of under-23 football, and eventually they all need to go on and develop in league football.
"This is why we’re very pleased that Niall and Cam get the opportunity to work with an experienced coach and really good guy in Darren Moore who has worked at academy level and under-23 football, so understands the process.”
Doncaster – who appointed Moore after Grant McCann left to take charge of Championship side Hull City – are kicking off the League One campaign at home against Gillingham tomorrow.
"It’s good that both the club and I have made a commitment to each other for the future. Having that extra bit of security will allow me to focus on my loan now that it's all sorted," said Ennis.
"I’m looking forward to getting started at Doncaster because it’s a club that wants to play football, in a similar way to how we are at Wolves.
“I’m hoping the move will provide me with some league experience as I feel like I’ve got as far as I can in under-23 football, and to further my development now I need to be playing men’s football.
“To improve and get to the next level, whether that’s making it at Wolves or whatever the future holds, I need to play men’s football.”
John added: "I know Darren Moore likes to promote the younger players and give them a chance to impress, and that is great for my development.
“At this stage in my career, the time is right to gain some new experience and learn from the senior professionals at the club.”
