Skipper Conor Coady and Co reported for duty yesterday and took part in a whole host of fitness assessments.

And goalkeeper John Ruddy believes this may well be the toughest pre-season he has ever been a part of.

“I think this is number 16 for me and it never gets easier,” said the shot-stopper.

“Every year it gets harder, but it’s changed a lot, even in my 16 years.

“You’ve now got to come back fit, you’ve got to have really good fitness levels to come back with.

“When I first started, pre-season was used to get you fit, but now you’ve got come back probably at 90 per cent already.

“Now it’s just about topping up and finalising the details.

“We’ve done a few tests to see where we’re at.

“Then we’ll see what we need to work on over the next six weeks before the fun starts.”

Wolves were also training at Compton today, before spending all of next week at England’s St George’s Park training base, as reported by the Express & Star on Wednesday.

Not all of the Wolves stars were taking part yesterday and today.

Striker Raul Jimenez is currently competing in the Concacaf Gold Cup with Mexico, while utility man Romain Saiss is aiming for Africa Cup of Nations glory with Morocco.

Wolves have the trip to China for the Premier League Asia Trophy and the beginning of their Europa League qualifying campaign in July, and Ruddy added: “We’re going to find it different.

“There’s a bit of travelling, but we should be able to take it in our stride.

“We just have to deal with the travel aspect.”
