Wolves will end the season in seventh place after a stellar campaign – and have already beaten Manchester United, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal this season, as well as a youthful Liverpool side in the FA Cup.
Van Dijk, who helped Liverpool to an astonishing 4-0 Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona on Tuesday, says all Liverpool can do is win and hope.
"It’s a totally different situation," he said. "We know we don’t have it in our hands. We’re going to try to get the three points against Wolves.
"They’ve been outstanding – one of the revelations this season with a fantastic manager. We have to be ready for a big fight.'
"We’ll try to get the three points. And if we do that and if City do it then congratulations to them because they have been outstanding as well and if not we’re going to be very happy."
