Wolves' success not bound by finishing position – Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo says Wolves will not be defined by where they finish in the Premier League – but by the joy experienced by fans along the way.

Wolves are firmly in the race for seventh and possible Europa League football, and taking on another side vying for that spot in Watford today.

But Nuno very much remains focused on the process instead of the end result.

“The table doesn’t mean anything,” he said.

“Our aim is not any particular position. Our aim is to go to the end of the season, always on a high.

“I don’t judge things (by position). For me, what is important is the process – the growing of the team.

“It’s about how we want to do things, how we always try to find new solutions and keep on improving ourselves.

“It began on the training pitch almost two years ago. If you judge (by position), it would not be fair to the work of the players.

“They’ve been working very hard. This season is a good season already.

“Let’s not be judged on where we finish, let’s be judged by the joy of the fans when they see us play.”

Wolves went into today’s test in seventh spot on 51 points, and also have Fulham (at home) and Liverpool (away) left to play.

A Europa League opportunity would be there for the seventh-placed team if Manchester City win the FA Cup final.

Wolves are going up against the Hornets after losing to them after extra-time in the Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Nuno does not know if that defeat was the lowest his side have felt this season but knows they have responded well to it.

“It’s tough to tell. Let’s wait until the end of the season to judge the highs and lows,” he added.

“We have had some moments of disappointment, but we are always able to bounce back and react to it. This is what pleases me the most.”
