Matt Doherty surprised over the speed of Wolves' rise

Long-serving star Matt Doherty admits he is surprised how Wolves have become ‘a completely different club’ in under two years.

Doherty has been at Molineux for more time than anyone in the current set-up, having joined in 2010, and has enjoyed every minute of the rise under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves have won the Championship title, reached the FA Cup semi-finals and earned their way to seventh in the Premier League during that time, and the Irishman still has to pinch himself every now and again.

When asked to sum up the transformation, Doherty said: “Surprising, really.

“We were in League One, then got taken over, and everyone hoped that the manager would be successful but no one expected us to go up straight away.

“But you could sense early that on that would be the case. The season before last we were fighting relegation a bit near the end.

“It is like a completely different club two years later. I am surprised how quick it has turned around.”
