Neil Warnock's men currently sit 17th in the league table, narrowly above the drop zone, whilst Wolves occupy 8th position with a push for a European place still very much on the cards.

But how have recent meetings gone between the two sides? Take a look at the previous five meetings between the two sides.

Cardiff City 2 Wolves 1 - November 30 2018

Having not won in five games, it was crucial for Wolves to come away from the Cardiff City Stadium with at least a point leading into a challenging period of December fixtures.

Unfortunately the fairytale visit to South Wales of the previous season could not be replicated as Wolves squandered a first half lead to come away empty-handed.

Matt Doherty's close range strike was cancelled out by Aaron Gunnarson's second half effort before Junior Hoilett produced a wonder strike to hand the Bluebirds the win.

Cardiff City 0 Wolves 1 - April 6 2018

A game which will live long in the memory of many Wolves fans. The game which effectively rubber stamped Wolves return to the Premier League after a six year absence.

With both of these teams occupying the two automatic promotion spaces at the time, this Friday night clash in front of the cameras promised a great deal, with only a handful of games remaining.

A fairly tame first half was followed by what Wolves fans may consider to be the most emotionally draining half of football in recent years.

Ruben Neves' wonderful free kick handed Wolves the advantage in the second period, much to the delight of the travelling support.

The visitors had numerous chances to wrap the game up and they were to pay for their lack of clinical edge when Cardiff won a penalty in stoppage time.

Fortunately for Wolves, Gary Madine's spot kick was saved by John Ruddy. Unbelievably however, the Bluebirds won another penalty with only seconds remaining.

This time Junior Hoilett stepped up, but his effort crashed against the cross bar. Quite staggeringly, Wolves took all three points back to the Black Country after somehow surviving two injury time penalties.

They were now on the brink of promotion to the Premier League.

Wolves 1 Cardiff City 2 - August 19 2017

The 2017/18 season had started wonderfully for Wolves with three wins from three games.

A true test was presented in the form of Cardiff City who had also enjoyed a very positive start to their campaign.

Despite cruising to victory in their opening games, Wolves came unstuck against a plucky Cardiff side who carried out their clear game plan to perfection.

Joe Ralls handed the Bluebirds the lead with a tidy finish in the opening stages of the second period, only for Leo Bonatini to equalise for the hosts with a close range effort.

Unfortunately for Wolves however, it was former strike Nathaniel Mendez-Laing who had the final say when he clinically dispatched a loose ball to send the Bluebirds back to South Wales with three points and top place in the Championship.

Wolves 3 Cardiff City 1 - April 1 2017

A mid table clash in the spring sunshine saw Wolves defeat Cardiff which included a splendid individual goal from the perilous Helder Costa.

Danny Batth opened the scoring for Wanderers with a trademark header, only for Keneth Zohore to equalise three minutes later with a looping header over Andy Lonergan.

Fortunately for Wolves, Batth replied once again with another second half header, assisted superbly by the influential Ben Marshall.

Wolves clinched the victory with eight minutes remaining, when Helder Costa weaved through the Bluebirds defence deceiving the City keeper and tapping into an empty net.

This resulted boosted Wolves survival hopes with a run of challenging games still to play.

With both teams flirting with danger narrowly above the relegation zone, this midweek clash in South Wales was of great importance.

It was the visitors who made the best start and broke the deadlock with only two minutes on the clock courtesy of a long range effort from Matt Doherty.

Despite their good start, Wolves' early promise began to tail off with the Welsh side dominating proceedings.

Their superiority paid off in the second half when Matthew Connolly nodded home after a goal mouth scramble in the six yard area.

With only four minutes remaining the Bluebirds snatched the lead when Anthony Pilkington ruthlessly dispatched a vicious effort past Harry Burgoyne. This led to another defeat for Wanderers to deepen their relegation worries.
