Steve Bull: Tammy Abraham not be all and end all of Wolves window

Tammy Abraham would be a good signing for Wolves – but getting him this month is not essential.

He ticks a lot of boxes – he has scored a lot of goals for Villa in the Championship, and he is still young.

The jury is out over whether he could score regularly in the Premier League, but I think goals can transfer to any level for a good striker.

Abraham is one of, probably, a few on our radar and I think he would be an asset for us, perhaps to bring off the bench for the second half of this season.

Personally, though, I would not be massively disappointed if he did not join by the end of January.

I think the main focus is getting this season done and dusted, hopefully sealing a top-half finish in the top flight, and then assessing things properly in the summer.

Then if we do achieve that top-10 finish, we potentially open ourselves to a market of real top-class, proven strikers who want to come to the club. But if we do snap up Abraham, I’ll be happy as well.

It’s a good situation for Wolves to be in – wanting a striker but not needing one just yet, due to Raul Jimenez’s form.

Rumoured to be on his way out of the club is Kortney Hause and, make no mistake, he needs to get some regular minutes under his belt now.

I wouldn’t sell him just yet though. If it is possible, I’d like to see him be loaned out until the end of the season and for Wolves to assess it from there depending on how he does.

It could be a loan with an option to buy if both clubs agree – a type of deal Wolves have used very well over the past few years.

Liverpool are coming to Molineux again on Monday, this time in the third round of the FA Cup, and I’m unsure what team Nuno will put out.

Nuno and the players will be treating the tie seriously, of course, but I think everyone is looking at the league first and foremost this year.

Diogo Jota is back in training and could play a part, but I expect Wolves to err on the side of caution.

Those hamstring injuries can be dangerous if you come back too quickly so if he does play a part, maybe it is best to be as a substitute.
