Conor Coady calls for Wolves improvements

Conor Coady says Wolves must improve defensively as he refused to blame the busy festive period for a lethargic performance against Crystal Palace.

Wolves slipped to a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday night – their fifth reverse in seven home matches.

Captain Coady called for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team to make Molineux a fortress again – but knows they must cut out the sloppy defensive errors.

“We’ve got to be better in games like that,” he said.

“I thought the game in general was poor, both teams weren’t really at it and looked a bit tired, a draw might have been a fair result.

“They’ve got that rub of the green with the cross-shot and it’s sloppy from our point of view to concede a goal like that.

“The festive period is always tough but we’ve got to be ready for it.

“I don’t think we came out the traps as quickly as we wanted to.

“Palace came with their own game plan. We wanted to start quicker and sharper.

“We were moving it side to side without creating too much, which was disappointing.

“We’ll look at it from a a back-five point of view because it’s not been good enough.

“The home form is a bit of an issue. We love playing at Molineux and need to make it a fortress like it was last year.”

Wolves now have a couple of days break before they face Liverpool in the FA Cup on Monday night.

“Monday is a good game for everybody and a good game for the club,” Coady said. “We’re looking forward to it and we’ll be ready.

“It’s been tough, it’s been a lot of games. A lot of the lads have played in the Championship before, we needed to be ready against Palace and I don’t think we were.”
