Wolves, following their Wembley exploits at the weekend, fell to late goals from Jordan Ayew and Luka Milivojevic – from the penalty spot – at Molineux.

"I'm very disappointed. Everybody in the stadium was disappointed, naturally," said Nuno on kicking off the new year with a defeat.

"But we have to look at it. The first half was very tight.

"The second half, we started better, but all the game we didn't perform well enough to control the game and say that we had a good performance.

"Today, we didn't have a good performance."

On if the disappointing display was down to fatigue, Nuno said: "Let's be honest, Palace had one day less to recover than us.

"But my players were arriving late to the actions.

"The standard of the team was not there. That is the reality."

Romain Saiss limped off in the second, with what Nuno described as 'impact on the knee'.

"It was impact on the knee, but everybody that trains and works every day has problems they have to deal with," added Nuno.

Palace chief Roy Hodgson said: "The team performance was good, against a team in excellent form – on the back of beating Tottenham 3-1.

"To win the game, in my opinion, deservedly, I've got be very satisfied. I'm very happy."
