Pochettino's Spurs were 1-0 up at the break, thanks to a sublime Harry Kane strike, but come undone in the second period.

Wolves ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Willy Boly, Raul Jimenez and Helder Costa to end 2018 in style.

"We conceded the first goal and, in the last 20 minutes, it was tough for the team to find energy," said Pochettino.

"We began to feel it before the goal and we were ready to bring on Oliver Skipp, a fresh player for the team, but they scored.

"The game was under control in the first half, and maybe it was easier than we expected in the first half.

"In the second half, we started to maybe feel the game was over, and when you feel that you play the wrong way with too many long balls.

"You play more with your heart than your head, and we started to expend a lot of energy. I'm very disappointed, like the players."

Pochettino, who before the game said Wolves are one of his favourite teams to watch, added: "We missed that freshness to kill the game.

"The difference between Everton and Bournemouth and this was that we didn’t kill the game.

"The team was then down, and they felt the tiredness as it went on."
