Wolves 4 Liverpool 1 - 1980/81 - Division 1

John Barnwell's Wolves outclassed Liverpool – several months on from their League Cup triumph

Wolves' magnificent eleven, superbly led by Emlyn Hughes, downed the League champions at Molineux with one of the best all-round performances they had produced for years.

Wolves smothered everything Liverpool could throw at them and countered brilliantly to beat the Merseysiders.

The astonishing scoreline was the Reds' heaviest defeat since being drubbed 5-1 by Villa three years prior.

Goals from Mel Eves, John Richards, Norman Bell put Wolves 3-1 up after Phil Neal equalised for the visitors.

But the cherry on top of the cake was Emlyn Hughes scoring against his former club to seal a famous win.

A stunning game that many Wolves fans both young and old will still remember very well.

Paul Lambert's men went to Anfield as 12/1 underdogs and pulled of one of the biggest shocks in recent FA Cup memory.

Richard Stearman put the visitors ahead after only 53 seconds, left unmarked to head in Helder Costa's free-kick.

And a travelling army of 8,300 fans were sent into delirium when Costa sent Andreas Weimann through on goal to round Loris Karius and double Wolves' lead before the break.

Divock Origi scored late on to set up a frantic finale, but Wolves held on for a famous win.

Liverpool 0 Wolves 1 - 20010/11 - Premier League

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson looks bewildered at his team's performance during the 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

Wolves beat Liverpool for the first time in 27 years to climb off the bottom of the table and pile the pressure on Reds manager Roy Hodgson.

Stephen Ward's crisp finish from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's pass 11 minutes into the second half proved enough to give Mick McCarthy's men a superb victory.

Apart from a Raul Meireles and Martin Skrtel efforts, Wolves were surprisingly comfortable throughout the game.

And It proved to be a huge three points in the grand scheme of things as Wolves survived relegation by a solitary point.

Hodgson lasted less than a fortnight following the defeat and was replaced by Kenny Dalglish.

Wolves 1 Liverpool 1 - 2003/4 - Premier League

Kenny Miller fires home a goal for Wolves to equalise.

Kenny Miller scored a late equaliser to get a seal a precious point against Gerard Houllier's Liverpool.

Bruno Cheyrou put the visitors ahead, clipping a shot past Michael Oakes just before the interval.

But Oakes kept Wolves in the game with a stunning trio of saves, keeping out Emile Heskey, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard.

And Miller made Liverpool pay the price when he drilled a shot past Jerzy Dudek in the 90th minute sending Molineux barmy.

The result came just a few days after they defeated Manchester United, but the season ultimately ended in relegation.

League leaders Liverpool left Molineux with their tail firmly between their legs after a superb home win.

John Richards' goal was enough to give John Barnwell's team maximum points.

Liverpool boasted a team of all-stars with Ray Clemence, Alan Hansen, Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness all in the starting line-up.

And the win proved crucial for Wolves as they pipped Aston Villa to 6th and UEFA Cup qualification.

It was a superb season all round as they defeated Nottingham Forest at Wembley to win the League Cup in front of 96,527.
