Conor Coady: Wolves facing a test of character
Conor Coady admits Wolves are facing a test of character after three consecutive defeats, as they eye up a ‘huge game’ at Arsenal.
Wolves are on their worst run since Nuno Espirito Santo took charge last summer, having lost to Watford, Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur on successive weekends.
They now face a daunting trip to the Emirates this Sunday. Captain Coady said: “It’s a test of our character – and we’re a team full of character. We won’t stop doing what we’re doing.
“It’s a huge game for us, we’ve been beaten for three in a row and we need to put that right at some point – it doesn’t mater if it’s Arsenal away, we have the same mentality of needing a win.”
Wolves conceded three goals for just the third time under Nuno, making uncharacteristic defensive errors.
“It’s not like us, to be honest,” Coady added.
“From their point of view they’re good goals, but from ours we need to look at where we’ve gone wrong.
“I thought we started the game pretty brightly, we moved the ball well, we were doing what we wanted to do.
“We’ve conceded a sloppy goal, we need to look at it and improve. We’ll learn and get better this week.
“We had to show our character (at 3-0 down), we were always going to do that. We had to.
“We showed a bit of energy and a will to push forward, but it wasn’t enough in the end.”
Wolves had a Raul Jimenez goal incorrectly chalked off for offside just before the break.
“We found out at half-time (that it wasn’t offside) and it’s disappointing when that happens, when you’re playing a team like Spurs you need everything to go with you,” Coady added.
“You don’t need those breaks. It’s tough anyway and when the officials make a bad decision like that it gets even harder.”
Morgan Gibbs-White’s contribution from the break was a big positive for Wolves and Coady was full of praise for the youngster.
“He’s a fantastic footballer, we know what he’s going to bring to the football club, the manager’s got full trust in him and he can change games,” the defender said.
“He’s got that burst of energy, which we saw on Saturday.
“The ball to Costa was outstanding, he’s got the confidence to go and play.”
