The Stafford-born youngster inspired a spirited comeback from Nuno Espirito Santo's team, who rallied with two goals but couldn't salvage a point.

Defender Ryan Bennett praised the 18-year-old – and believes there's more to come.

"He came on and injected some energy," Bennett said.

"He's got that ability, he goes past people with ease. He's a confident lad.

"It's tough because he hasn't played as much as those who are older or a bit more experienced, but everyone can see when he does come on, the energy and enthusiasm he's got.

"His quality is undoubted, he's proved that for the past couple of years, he was involved last year and this year, he won the World Cup, he's stepped up in the England age groups too.

"It's only a matter of time before we start seeing him on a regular basis."

Gibbs-White's contribution was highlighted on Match of the Day, with the academy graduate's performance hailed as 'amazing' and 'sensational' by pundit Danny Murphy.

Bennett added: "He''s got personality too, he's from the area and been here for years.

"Because he's been with us since day one, you don't look at him as a young lad.

"In certain situations in training you say 'who is the youngest?' and it's him and that takes you by surprise

"He shows it every single day, he fits in like one of the lads."

Head coach Nuno, though, played down Gibbs-White's performance and said the youngster merely did what was expected of him.

"That is what we expect from all the players when they come off the bench - bring some energy, some new things," Nuno said.

"They were those options and next time they are going to be there again - before it was others.

"Everybody knows their tasks. Everybody has a role. Everybody is important, in the shape.

"The squad is very important and the strength of the squad allows us to have a good XI and then good options on the bench, who can change games.

"Sometimes you win games, coming from the bench."
