There were 2,741 on hand for this top-of-the-table encounter and Rob Edwards' young men provided an exciting glimpse into the future.

Benny Ashley-Seal broke the deadlock, with Mason Greenwood replying for United.

It seemed set to end in a draw but Ennis refused to settle for a point, sealing the win as he emphatically found the top corner. He will not forget that goal any time soon.

Dominic Iorfa, who has made 93 appearances for the first team, was among Wolves' back three and very assured in a dominant first-half display from the hosts.

Tahith Chong - after being among the substitutes as Jose Mourinho's Reds lost 1-0 to Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night - barely touched the ball for the visitors.

Ryan Giles kept him quiet while proving a major threat going forward for Edwards' charges. His intent was clear - take on United's George Tanner and look to feed target man Ashley-Seal.

From Giles's first delivery, Ashley-Seal could only fire high and wide. He got it right the second time around though, giving Wolves a deserved lead just prior to the half-hour mark.

They had a couple of chances to extend their advantage before the break too. Max Kilman headed narrowly wide at the back post and Oskar Buur smacked the side netting from an acute angle.

Elliot Watt was booked for the home side, as was defender Regan Poole for United, who began the second period with their tails up. And they soon levelled the scoring through 17-year-old Greenwood, his low drive brushing Andreas Sondergaard before hitting the net.

Chong then started to have more of an influence for United, after being shown a yellow card for diving. He linked up sweetly with Angel Gomes to set up James Garner, whose shot from 25 yards sailed over the bar.

Wolves' attacking prowess faded until Ennis sent them back in front in exceptional style.

The left-winger cut inside and comfortably carried the ball before rifling it into the top corner, leaving Matej Kovar dumbfounded.

Wolves, who brought on Austin Samuels and Paulo Alves late on, were clapped off the pitch following the final whistle - and rightly so.
