The Saints conceded twice in the final 15 minutes after Ivan Cavaleiro scored on his Premier League debut (79) before Jonny Otto doubled the lead (87).

Hughes admitted Wolves are a 'good side who have have caused teams problems this season', but revealed Southampton travelled to Molineux expecting a result.

The 54-year-old said: "Yes I think frustration is the emotion we are feeling at the moment. We came here with good intent, good purpose to our play, for long periods of the game I thought we were the dominant team in possession and for most parts, created chances as well.

"I think we had better possession stats, better shots on target stats and unfortunately for us the stats that counts is the 2-0 at the top of the page.

"We are disappointed with the manner of the goals, they clearly could have been avoided. Both times the Wolves players (were) in an area of the field we should be able to deal with and not too much room to operate. On two occasions we allowed them to get past and put a ball into a dangerous area and as a consequence we have conceded two goals as a result.

"It is difficult to take because I think the first goal came at a time when we looked the more likely team to score.

"That was our intention, we did come and just block Wolves out and hoped to get something out the game. I thought we were fully engaged in a good game against a good Wolves side who have caused a lot of teams problems.

"But I thought today we had a lot of control in the game but we have got to be more dynamic, more aggressive, in both boxes, both in an attacking sense and defensive sense because at the moment, that little bit of luck, that little bit of the run of the ball that you need, which comes from personality, clearly, and creatively - we are just lacking that in terms of our attacking play and a little bit of our defensive play really.
